Dean Stockwell  is an American actor of film and television with an epic career spanning over 60 years.  Starting out as a child actor, he appeared as a main character (Donald Martin) in the musical movie Anchors Aweigh, alongside Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. Some of his other notable child roles included that of Robert Shannon in The Green Years (1946), Gregory Peck‘s son in Gentleman’s Agreement (1947), and as Lionel Barrymore‘s grandson, and Richard Widmark‘s protege in Down to the Sea in Ships (1949). He also starred in the lead role of the film The Boy With Green Hair in 1948, and in a film adaptation of The Secret Garden in 1949. In 1950, he appeared in a lead role alongside Errol Flynn in Kim, the film of Rudyard Kipling‘s novel of the same name.

Unlike many child actors, he continued to act past his teenage years. In 1959, Stockwell appeared in the film Compulsion, playing Judd Steiner. Stockwell has the distinction of having won the award for best actor at the Cannes Film Festival , for Compulsion and Long Day’s Journey Into Night.

In 1958, he joined Gloria Talbott and Dan Blocker as guest stars in the episode “Mercyday” of the NBC western series The Restless Gun, starring John Payne.

In 1960, he played in Sons and Lovers, cast as an Englishman, and working alongside Trevor Howard and Wendy Hiller. In 1961, Stockwell appeared in the premiere episode of ABC‘s Bus Stop series, which starred Marilyn Maxwell. In 1962, he played in an adaptation of Eugene O’Neill‘s play Long Day’s Journey Into Night along with Katharine Hepburn, Ralph Richardson and Jason Robards, for which he won Best Actor at Cannes once again.

In 1984, he appeared in Wim Wenders‘ critically acclaimed film Paris, Texas, and in that same year, in David Lynch‘s film version of Dune as Wellington Yueh. The following year he turned in a brief but significant role as attorney Bob Grimes in William Friedkin’s To Live and Die in L.A. In 1986, Stockwell acted in another Lynch production, the neo-noir thriller Blue Velvet. In 1988, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Mafia boss Tony “the Tiger” Russo in the comedy Married to the Mob. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 29, 1992 (Leap Day) following the success of Quantum Leap.

In 2006 Stockwell joined the cast of Battlestar Galactica as the lead antagonist, Cylon John Cavil, staying until the end of the series four years later.

PhotoNancy Ratner will speak at The 1st Annual Women’s Empowerment Summit.  Nancy Ratner is Senior Director, VH1 Consumer Marketing Partnerships & Promotions. In this role Nancy develops and produces marketing campaigns in support of key programming initiatives including music branding for VH1. Her work covers experiential marketing, event marketing and social media marketing with the goal of building buzz and driving tune-in with a variety of partners including airlines, digital out-of-home ad networks, professional sports organizations, cinemas, retail companies, e-commerce businesses and pro-social organizations.

Nancy began her career at VH1 15 years ago in the viewer services department as a liaison between viewers and the channel, providing real-time feedback to key executives. Prior to working at VH1 Nancy worked in the non-profit sector as a prospect researcher where she was responsible for identifying and qualifying major gift donors for Tufts University, Harvard Medical School, Sarah Lawrence College and Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.

Nancy is a graduate of Tufts University and lives in NYC with her husband. She is the proud mother of 18-year-old twin sons and a 19-year-old step-daughter, all of whom are freshman in college.

Valerie Smaldone will be a featured guest at the 1st Annual NYC Women’s Empowerment Summit. Karen Goodman will speak at the 1st Annual NYC Women’s Empowerment Summit.  As female half of the Simon & Goodman Picture Company duo, Karen Goodman is recipient of three Academy Award nominations and three Emmy Awards and recently won an Oscar for the documentary “Strangers No More.” Goodman has done groundbreaking work in both film and television in documentary format to explore truth. Her exploration of the role of women in Egypt, “Cairo Unveiled,” was the season premiere of National Geographic Explorer series. They have produced a number of projects for Lincoln Center’s Dance Film Archive, documenting the works of choreographers Paul Taylor, Alvin Ailey, Robert Joffrey, Jerome Robbins, and George Balanchine. Other joint projects include commercials, corporate and promotional videos, and political spots. Goodman has served as a judge for the International and National Emmy Awards, the Media Program for the National Endowment for the Humanities, and many other prestigious awards.
